About the Department of Dentistry
Medical Services >> Pediatric Dentistry>> About Us

The Department of Dentistry provides comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care services for infants, children and adolescents up to the age of 21, including those with special health care needs.
Routine procedures such as preventive, restorative and minor orthodontic treatment are provided both on an outpatient and inpatient basis in our eight chair clinic. In addition to routine care, we specialize in the management of patients with complex dental, medical and behavioral issues.
For patients who have difficulty undergoing dental procedures in the usual manner, we offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral and IV sedation under the direction of a dental anesthesiologist, as well as general anesthesia in the operating room .
In order to provide comprehensive care for our patients, we work closely with several specialty departments at Boston University School of Dental Medicine. We also coordinate care with other departments within the Hospital for our patients with special health care needs.
