John Solman is a Clinical Resource Nurse at Franciscan Hospital for Children and also works as a staff nurse at another well-regarded local hospital. His specialties include pediatrics, rehabilitation and tracheostomy care.
John came to his profession after family experiences involving hospitalization. These encounters gave him a deep appreciation for the profound way that nurses can affect an individual and his or her recovery.
Set on his career goal of becoming an RN, he attended the University of Vermont where he received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing. “I have found repeatedly that what makes the biggest difference is knowing your patient. There are so many subtleties that make a significant difference in how a patient responds to therapies and the care we deliver.”
In a Pediatric setting, it can be especially important to bring some levity to the care environment. Patients and families laugh when John’s sense of humor takes over and he embraces his goofy side. He is often referred to as "chicken man" in the Operating Room when he puts on a glove as a hat while trying to comfort a child.
In addition to his clinical role, John is interested in healthcare informatics and how technology can be harnessed to improve the quality of care patients receive.
Beyond his clinical work, he enjoys electronics, photography and volunteering his time with the American Red Cross.
